{around the house} the clock wall

my family and friends will tell you...

i'm the best at being indecisive.
and i'm the perfect procrastinator.
i am jennifer.

those are two talents i wish i wouldn't have been blessed with.

where does all that useless info fit into this post you ask?
well i've had this idea for a clock collection in my head for a couple of years now. so i finally bought all the clocks and then let most of them sit under a bed for the last 4 months. just waiting for someone to come hold my hand and help me decide how to do it.

finally my sisters came to my rescue.
so we...
put my niece to work cutting out kraft paper in the shapes of my clocks.
that way, we could move things around and get them exactly where we wanted them without putting a hundred holes in the wall.

when everything looked right. we measured for the nail holes and hammered the nails in.
then we took off the paper and hung my clock collection.

then i fell in love... and wondered why the heck i waited so long to get them up there.

oh and just in case you are wondering...
large black clock came from target. yellow one came from a store we have here in vegas and utah called rodworks. (a couple years ago though) and the 3 smaller clocks were bought at hobby lobby for 50% off.
...
so is it weird to have a clock collection? my hubby doesn't get it?
do you have any collections?

Jennifer, I love it. I think it's a great idea. Tell your hubby I say you're a genius :)

Angela  – (July 29, 2010 at 6:32 AM)

I totally understand the husband not getting it...mine is the same way! I LOVE the clocks and was considering doing something similar. Now that I've seen your's, I might just have to get on that project! Thanks for the inspiration!

Susan Crabtree  – (July 29, 2010 at 6:34 AM)

it looks great! I collect Peruvian churches & crosses (my favorites are the crosses our boys find me when they are up at the cabin made from pine tree branches). My boys have a wind up toy collection which they love too!

Kris M. –   – (July 29, 2010 at 6:50 AM)

No real collections here, but I am a procrastinator too! I have lists, sketches, little odds & ends of things that I am constantly putting together for a "Wouldn't this look cool!". Of course I'm always waiting for more time, more $$$, etc. before they are completed! Bravo to you for completing it and thanks for making me feel a tad bit better about a weakness I have.

Randi  – (July 29, 2010 at 7:12 AM)

I love clocks too and my husband doesn't get it either ... he always comments that we have way too many.

Niki  – (July 29, 2010 at 7:13 AM)

I LOVE it! I also love the wall color. Do you know what the name of it is?

Krystle  – (July 29, 2010 at 7:25 AM)

Your wall of clocks is incredible!!! I absolutely love it! I wish I had more walls to do something similar =) I collect picture frames!

Julie  – (July 29, 2010 at 7:37 AM)

Susan E  – (July 29, 2010 at 8:01 AM)

love your clock collection - one of my great friends also has one of these in her home and it fills an entire wall (so cool). yours looks great!

Kelsey  – (July 29, 2010 at 8:15 AM)

I LOVE the clocks!! I love collections like this. I'm trying to find a *collection* to do myself. Only I too am indecisive and a procrastinator. And also a perfectionist. (I actually did a post awhile ago where I stated this same thing.) Not a great combo...so I totally know where you're coming from. Yeah for finally getting them up!

Kelley  – (July 29, 2010 at 8:16 AM)

I'm sooooooooo glad you waited not another minute (pardon the pun)!

MerrittsFour  – (July 29, 2010 at 8:42 AM)

You've inspired me. I love clocks and have always wanted to do something like this, but couldn't picture it...now I know I want one! :)

Tracy  – (July 29, 2010 at 9:23 AM)

I LOVE it! But in all fairness I've been plotting to do something really similar but I need more clocks and apparently a Hobby Lobby. Ultimately I plan to set the hands at the times of my children's births and the time at which we got married, just for fun. It looks really fantastic and I feel even more confident in my choice to do a clock wall. Well done!

RazakFamily  – (July 29, 2010 at 10:41 AM)

That's awesome! I have wanted to do something like this for my mom with all her kids' different time-zones on each clock.....now I guess I'm really going to have to do it :) :)
Thanks for the inspiration!

I have a clock collection too! Most of mine are not the kind that hang on the wall though. I have them everywhere and most of them do not keep time. Love, love, love them and everybody that comes to my home loves them too!

Carolina  – (July 29, 2010 at 11:21 AM)

I think it is an awesome idea! Although, I might purposely put them at different times and label them all "daddy time," "mommy time" etc. : )

And, my husband doesn't understand my decor either. Probably a "guy thing."

This project is fab! I love it! I have always thought of doing this, but now I must. Thanks for sharing!

Lisa PN  – (July 29, 2010 at 5:49 PM)

What a great and simple project! And i like how they mirror some of the plates that you have over the window with the yellow, black and white. Good job even if it wasn't intentional!

Will be sure to keep up with your great blog!

donna k  – (July 29, 2010 at 6:15 PM)

i love the clock collection. i started a camera collection recently. i currently have 3. they are metal ones that i picked up at hobbylobby and the crowded house in az. i have a little ceramic one and am on a mission to aquire my uncles 4x6 reporters camera. i have them in my scrapbook room to remind me its all about the photo and the story behind it.
happy collecting

M and E  – (July 29, 2010 at 7:43 PM)

My mom has a clock collection (HUGE!), and I think we've all inherited her love of clocks. She has 5 grandfather clocks, a couple of cuckoo clocks, and so many wall and mantel clocks that it makes one's head spin. I have a big grandfather clock, a cuckoo clock, a big one on my bedroom wall, one above the mantel, one in the dining room, two in the office, and one in each child's bedroom!

brainella  – (July 29, 2010 at 8:10 PM)

It's not odd at all -- it's a collection that is totally cool. You could even set them for different time zones, if you wished -- so you would always know what time it is in Playa Del Carmen! Ok -- between you and me -- we just talked me into doing this too! Definite bookmark, and a new follower for you. Please stop by my place and if you are inspired, follow me in return. I'm also having a spray painter giveaway.

I really like it! And would like to know your wall color, too, please!!!!

Jamison  – (August 2, 2010 at 5:26 AM)

Love it! My hubby wouldn't get it either, but if it were up to him we wouldn't hang anything on the walls because he is afraid of nail holes! What a silly thing to be afraid of :) You are one of my new favorite blogs to follow! Love all of your ideas and the well explained and beautifully presented explanations! Keep em' coming!

jes  – (August 2, 2010 at 7:46 PM)

Suzanne  – (March 25, 2011 at 7:47 AM)

Fantastic idea! I grew up with a mom who insisted upon clocks with roman numerals. Your clock wall is super and so is the craft paper placement step.
