What a great way to include the whole family.
We have a Valentine's Day Banquet every year.
I serve pink pancakes, pink milk, pink eggs, bacon and red velvet cake for dessert. It's a candlelight affair, of course.
When the kids were small, we would make a photo backdrop from red poster board with white hearts stuck all over the board. We would take turns having our pictures taken against the backdrop.
The kids are 19, 17 and 14, but we still enjoy the "Banquet." (Red food just tastes better!)
I love this idea - we don't do anything special for Valentine's dinner, but that's changing this year thanks to you girls, cuz I'm coming to your house! lol - just teasing, but I'm so glad you posted this in enough time for me to get my butt in gear and plan something for my husband and FIVE boys! This'll teach them to know that valentine's day is special when they have girlfriends!
My friend Wendy gave me the idea to do a sweetheart cafe every year. She has done it for the last....more than 30 years. I decorate the dining room like it's a little cafe and we have a special valentine's day dinner. We have special plates that we only use once a year. I love it! We do it with our kids now and they think it's fun and special, too.
Your parties always look so fun. They sorta make me wish I had sisters instead of brothers. Don't get me wrong I love my brothers, but they just aren't so into a cute Valentine's Day party.
We light candles, put a tablecloth on the table and have dinner...then comes the fun part! We make chocolate fondue and serve it with strawberries, bananas, and cut up rice krispie treats. The kids look forward to this dinner weeks before Valentine's Day. They (and my Hubby) get a valentine pail (That I reuse each year)full of goodies too.

We do a family (just DH, DS, and me) Valentine's dinner every year. Everything is red or pink, we use our best china & candles and sprinkle losts of V. candy all over the table. We usually finsih w/ a heart shaped cake and sometimes a little gift. I love your idea of the inviting the extended family and I may start that tradition next year.
Another fun thing we do is "Valentine pockets." Like from Eelementary school. We each make & put up a pocket and for a couple of weeks it is so fun to check your pocket for notes or little surprises.

I've thought about doing this but we are all so busy with different work schedules and basketball season and birthdays we just don't have the time. This is so nice for your family to do and love the decorations. Thanks for sharing!
There is no school on Valentines Day this year, I no longer have a job go to, & my husband is out on medical leave (he just had major surgery) so I am thinking of ways to make it special, like the pink breakfast, playing in the park, & having a family picnic on the living room floor with a movie marathon for dinner. Would love some more ideas... Thanks for all you do!

I used to get really upset on Valentines day because we were unable to go out because we had children at home it was always a bummer day for me so a few years ago my husband and I decided to make it a night we let the kids know how much we love them. We cook them a fancy dinner that includes Filet Mignon every year. We give each a small gift ie: favorite candy, book, stuffed animal etc. a couple of years we tied a solid color balloon to everyone's chair and set out markers. Each person wrote something they loved about that person on their balloon the we went outside and released them into the air. I told the kids we were telling the world how much they are loved. The kids look forward to it each year. This has become one of our most favorite traditions. My husband and I will have many Valentines alone when the kids are gone and I think they will always remember on valentine's day how much we love them even when they are all grown up.

We have a V-Day celebration every year! Our food, craft and activity are all centered on a theme and we have a devotional.

You inspired me tonight to make our Sunday Family Dinner special: Last minute just threw some scarpbook paper down as placemats and got out the "good" plates and set the table with all the silverware possible. We had a lot of fun, Thanks!

This is such a wonderful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the whole family. I have a big family and we are all very close, having something like this will only bring us much closer. We are all food lovers in our family. I am planning on hosting my own Valentine’s Day dinner that will be focused on my family’s favourite meals. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
